#BugsR4Girls2

I have had the singular joy of going to schools and events teaching children about insects and even letting them interact and hold live ones! And the one thing that has always delighted me was how boys and girls in equal numbers are utterly captivated by insects. In fact, I’ll never forget when I was showing a Giant Madagascar Hissing Cockroach to some children about seven years old, this adorable little girl in a pink dress and pig tails came over and was petting the giant “scary” looking cockroach with complete confidence and joy, but when her little brother came over, he let out some scared noises and then recoiled back to his parents away from the roach. All the while his sister was petting the cute creature with complete contentment ūüôā .

I always remember this incident with joy, realizing that all of us,¬†male and female, have our own attraction or aversion to insects. Sometimes our environments teach us that insects are “yucky” and “not for girls” and that is a real shame because insects make up over half of all known species diversity on the earth! They are responsible for helping to pollinate our crops, they help cultivate our soil, and play a huge part in the food web. In short, insects are something that we can all be fascinated by. Especially since¬†with so many species occurring all over the world, you can find some of the most breathtaking natural colors and patterns in insects. So when women wear Insect Diva jewelry it’s a very confident and empowering statement saying “bugs” are for girls too! And who knows what new strides they’ll¬†be inspired¬†to take next!

It’s so inspiring to¬†see the beautiful pictures of women wearing their “bug” jewelry with confidence and aplomb! ūüôā Seeing women looking absolutely gorgeous and strong donning¬†the Insect Diva¬†designs¬†fills me with absolute joy. It’s like seeing women with that same carefree attitude of a little girl- just taking in the wonder and beauty of insects and nature ūüôā

ENVIRONMENTAL OUTREACH

482

When I started Insect Diva I wanted it to be about more than just pretty jewelry, though pretty jewelry is important too ;). I wanted to share my love of insects and nature as a whole, and the profound importance they have in all of our lives. Environmental outreach and sharing my love and knowledge of our natural world is the cornerstone of my work.

I’m always looking for creative ways to communicate concepts like¬†conservation and connect people with the reality of how precious, beautiful, and valuable our environment is, so, I started Insect Diva jewelry. ¬†Every piece is inspired by an insect or some other fauna or flora and comes with a ¬†special note¬†about the insect, plant, or natural phenomenon that inspired the piece. So¬†you¬†get more than just a beautiful piece of jewelry ūüėČ .

I think of my customers as stakeholders in our shared environmental cause. Many¬†pieces even come with easy tips about conservation, and what small but powerful¬†efforts you can make¬†towards caring for our earth. So the jewelry doesn’t¬†only empower you¬†with the confidence to look your¬†best, but it¬†also empowers¬†you¬†with the information to conserve the natural beauty around you¬†:).
